Port Blair, July 02: The Department of Social Welfare conducted a meeting today at Secretariat’s conference hall against the ill effect of Drugs and Substance abuse.
Director of Social Welfare Mr.Shailender Kumar Singh chaired the meeting, many NGO’s, Education, Health, Police Department and social activists were present in the meeting.
A calendar of activities has been finalized by Dept. of Social Welfare from July onwards for ensuring the regular and continuous conduction of events. All the programmes would be conducted with active support from NGOS and CSOs.
Mr.Shailender Kumar Singh said it has also come to fore that substances like whitener, primer & II thinner etc are easily available. Thus a check on sale of these substances and regular monitoring is needed.
The department has proposed for establishment of IRCA in all three districts headquarters with 100 % financial support from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment by September, 2019.
Mrs. Ansuya , Chairperson, PBMC giving suggestion said that awareness of parents is must before the targeting children.
Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, Padmashree awardee said that the students are aware about Swatchta and now they have to be made aware about ill effect of Drugs and Substance abuse.
