Port Blair, Jun 17: A “Seed Day” program was organised at Kishorinagar Gram Panchayat in Diglipur on 14/06/2019 under ICAR- Seed project by Division of Field Crop Improvement and Protection in collaboration with KVK (Nimbudera), Social Science Section of CIARI and Department of Agriculture, A & N Administration.
The Chief guest of the program Mr. K. Srinivasan, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CIARI and the participating department for timely availability of the seed along with technical knowhow and do how for the benefit of the farmers of the area.
The guest of honour Mr. Amar Mondal, Pradhan of Kishorinagar Gram panchayat assured for all his cooperation for making the Front Line Demonstration of high yielding varieties of paddy successful in the cluster of villages of Kishorinagar Gram Panchyat.
During program, the importance of quality seed of HYVs in rice cultivation was delivered by Dr. P.K. Singh, Principal Scientist & Head (I/c) of FCIP Division of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair and Nodal Officer, ICAR Seed project, Dr. B.L. Kashinath, Head, KVK (Nimbudera) delivered techniques involved in rice seed production. The characteristic features of improved rice varieties distributed were delivered by Dr. K. Venkatesan, Scientist from CIARI, Port Blair. The schemes available under Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration were explained by Dr. Dilip Kumar, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Diglipur. During the program, 17 q quality seed of nine improved rice varieties viz., CARI Dhan 4, CARI Dhan 5 and CSR 36 (Salt tolerant varieties); CARI Dhan 2, CARI Dhan 6 and CARI Dhan 7 (Medium duration varieties); Gayatri (Long duration variety) and Improved Aath Number Dhan (CARI Dhan 8 and CARI Dhan 9) were provided to the farmers representing 20 villages for Front Line Demonstration across the North and Middle Andaman. Total 251 farmers participated and interacted with the expert team of Scientists from CIARI, Port Blair and officials from KVK and Department of Agriculture, A & N Administration.
At the outset Dr. S. V. Lal, SMS, KVK welcomed the gathering and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sailesh Kumar, SMS, KVK, Nimbudera.
The program was overall coordinated by Dr. P.K. Singh, Pr. Scientist and Nodal Officer, ICAR Seed Project along with team members Dr. B.L. Kashinath, Dr. R.K. Gautam, Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Mr. B.L. Meena Dr. K. Venkatesan, Mr. Shyam Sunder Rao, Mr. M.N. Das under the plan and guidance of Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR- CIARI, a release from Nodal Officer (PR) & In-charge, PME Cell said.
