Port Blair, June 14: In yet another incident of bridge damage, major portion of a wooded bridge, over Khari Nallah, connecting Kalighat and Nischintapur Village of North Andaman has been washed away by water current in the nallah on 12 June 2019 after heavy rain.
According to information the wooden bridge was only mean to connect the Nischintapur Village from Kalighat area and now the Pradhan of Kalighat has provided dinghies as temporary arrangement for connectivity. As per information 70 families are living in Nishchintapur Village of North Andaman.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the Pradhan of Kalighat, Mrs. Pushpa Rani Mondal said that Panchayat has already intimated this matter to the Assistant Commissioner of North Andaman and requested him to sanction construction of new wooden bridge over the Khari Nallah under MGNREGA.
Meanwhile when contacted the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Awanish Kumar informed Andaman Sheekha over message that a new bridge will be constructed soon in that area. “They were waiting for my approval for fund. I have asked them to proceed in anticipation of financial sanction,” the DC replied.
