Port Blair, May 14: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) has said that bridge construction work of both Middle Strait and Humphery Strait, are on the right track.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma , General Manager, Project NHIDCL, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has said that the CRZ clearance for the Middle Strait bridge was received in December 2018 and the Appointment Date (Date of Start for the contractor) was given as January 2019.
“Till now tree felling work in the diverted forest land has been completed and presently the Soil Stats Investigation is going on as of now a few obstacles, which the department is facing is that a few encroachments are on the way of the bridge. The matter has been taken up with the DC Mayabander and CCF to find a way to clear the encroachments,” Mr. Verma said.
About Humphery Strait Bridge Mr. Verma further said the progress in this project is very satisfactory and the construction of the bridge is scheduled to be completed by April 2020 but NHIDCL is taking all the efforts for its completion by December 2019.
“If we talk numbers, a total of 52% work has been completed. The major work remaining is the launching of the segments and the machinery for the same has already reached the site so expectedly during the rainy season the launching work will be done,” he said.
