Port Blair, Apr 26: The Navy Children School, under Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), hosted the Port Blair chapter of I.I.M.U.N, (India’s International Movement to United Nations) recently. About 85 students from Navy Children School, Ummat Public School and Sagritara School participated in this conference, aimed at bringing awareness among today’s youth, about the working of the bodies of the UN and the Lok Sabha.
The Conference endeavours to create a politically vibrant society from young age that understands the global working culture in such organisations. The event was inaugurated with the lighting of lamp by Mrs Vijayalakshmi Anandan, Principal, Ummat Public School, Mrs Anita Devi, Principal, Navy Children School and Mr Swapnil Bhutkar, Director, I.I.M.U.N, followed by a cultural program. The local student coordinators for the conference were Master Rajeeb Biswas and Ms Rishita from Navy Children School.
All the students enthusiastically participated in the discussions, representing as delegates of various countries (in mock UN) and as MPs (in mock Lok Sabha). The topic of discussion / debate included reforms / funding in UN and electronic voting and the Shabarimala issue. At the end of the two days conference prizes were awarded to participants who excelled in various areas. NCS was awarded the certificate and trophy for the best performing school. The entire program was coordinated by Mrs Atasi N Chauhan a PGT from NCS.
