Port Blair, Apr 18: While the Port Blair city is presently having sufficient power supply, the Swaraj Dweep situated very close to Port Blair city and marketed as prime spot for Andaman Tourism, is reeling under severe power crisis. On one hand Andaman Administration makes tall claims of promoting tourism and on the other hand there is severe power crisis in Swaraj Dweep, which is the hotspot of Andaman Tourism.
According to details out of two DG set of A & N Administration one DG Set has developed technical problems, which actually triggered this power crisis.
It seems the hotel and resort owners are worst hit with this new development. As per reports since last few week power supply in Swaraj Dweep is very erratic. Because of unbelievably long power cuts, hotel and resort owners are forced to run their Diesel Generator Sets for more than ten hours a day.
Since Andaman Tourism is approaching lean season the hotel and resort owners are facing the issue of cost overrun as the room occupancy level is very low.
Adding to the plight the ANIIDCO Outlet is running short of diesel supply and stopped supply of diesel to the Hotels and Resorts yesterday, which created addition crisis. As per sources fuel reached Swaraj Dweep three days back but as labourers were not available to bring the fuel to ANIIDCO Outlet they were unable to provide fuel to hotel owners.
“The Administration is neither able to provide power to hotels and resort nor fuel to run DG Sets, this is height of mismanagement,” said a resort owner.
