Port Blair, Apr 04: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where transportation of polling materials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have already begun, each and every movement of these polling materials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) is being tracked by GPS centrally.
Considering remoteness and transportation hurdles, the authorities in Andaman and Nicobar Islands have already started transportation of polling materials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to various far-flung islands of this Union Territory.
But to ensure that polling materials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) remain safe, even GPS tracking of ships are also being done, in which these materials were sent for Nicobar Group of Island and N&M Andaman.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Returning Officer, A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai today said that police team, CPMF team, ECIL engineers and polling parties are accompanying these polling materials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and every movement is being tracked by GPS.
“There are nine strong rooms in remote Islands and every strong room is equipped with CCTV camera inside and outside, which are continuously monitored. Every vehicle which will carry polling materials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being tracked by GPS and Sectoral Officers’ vehicles are equipped with GPS,” Mr. Rai added.
The Returning Officer, A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency informed that there are 33 isolated polling booths in Islands like Maaca Chua and Afra bay were satellite phone have been provided. ECIL engineers will be present in these booths full time along with CPMF Jawans and polling party.
Altogether 89 Engineers from ECIL are in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to ensure all EVMs functions properly.
