Port Blair, Mar 27: The Congress party is committed for implementation the “Nyoontam Aay Yojana, or NYAY (The Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme) scheme in full spirit as it was done in case of farm loan waiver in the states of Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh said Mr. K Ganeshan, while addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhawan this morning.
Mr. Ganeshan said that Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday announced an income support of Rs. 72000 per annum to the poorest 20% families of the Country.
“This declaration has reiterated party’s commitment to eradicate Poverty in the country; rather “NYAY” will be final assault on poverty in the country. Five crore families and 25 crore people will be benefited from the scheme and the money will be directly transferred to bank account of beneficiary,” he said.
During the press conference he gave detail about the scheme and said in this scheme poorest 20% of families will be guaranteed Rs. 72000/- per annum. Approximately 5 crore families will be benefitted of this scheme. This means @ 5 members per family, around 25 Crore people will be benefited.
“To ensure delivery of the scheme to the beneficiary and its optimum utilisation, this amount will be credited directly to the Bank account of the senior female member of the family; This financial assistance will be in addition to existing social welfare measures and subsidies; The Congress-UPA implemented MGNREGA that lifted 14 Crore people out of poverty. NYAY will bring 25 Crore people out of poverty; NYAY has been conceived by a team of leading economists. Contours and details of the scheme shall be announced in following days and the fiscal repercussions of this scheme have been analysed and adequate finance is available in the country’s economy. Hence the scheme is perfectly doable,” Mr. K Ganeshan added.
