Port Blair, Mar 17: Mr. Diganta Gogoi, IFS, posted as Chief Conservator of Forest, (Development and Utilization), Forest Department has been arrested by a CBI team of Port Blair, which was authorized by CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau, New Delhi.
The arrest was made this afternoon following a raid, which was conducted yesterday night at the resident of the IFS officers, during which the CBI team reportedly found some crucial documents.
A CBI team from New Delhi, headed by Inspector SK Tiwari, reportedly landed Port Blair this morning at around 10.30 AM, after which the accused was produced to Hon’ble Court, from where transit remand was obtained. It is still not clear whether the accused to be taken to New Delhi today or he will be taken tomorrow.
Sources said that the arrest was made for case of corruption, which is pending in Hon’ble Patiala Court, New Delhi and there are two accused in this case. The other accused is also said to be an IFS Officer, posted in Arunachal Pradesh.
When Andaman Sheekha team visited CBI office of Port Blair today the CBI team of Port Blair refused to give any information, in this regard.
However, the SP CBI, A & N Islands, Mr. Shantanu Kar told Andaman Sheekha over phone that the case is not related to Andaman and is being handled by CBI ACU, New Delhi.
