Baratang, Mar 14: The North and Middle Andaman unit of A& N Ranchi Association today organised a dharna at Baratang Islands demanding proper compensation and alternative land to the families, who will be evicted for Middle Strait Bridge.
Meanwhile, the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Nilambur, N&M Andaman in a letter addressed to LG, Andaman & Nicobar Administration said that NHIDCL is going to construct a bridge between Middle strait and Nilambur. A survey was conducted by the survey team for the alignment of bridge and road at Baratang nearly three years back. But none of the public representative was involved.

The Pradhan added that the proposed road leading to proposed bridge between Middle strait to Nilambur is actually passing through survey No. 33 at Nilambur, Baratang and the effected people are residing in survey No. 32 since last 50 years. Many of them have constructed RCC houses on the said land. Now as per the map for proposed road shown by NHIDCL the road passing through survey No. 33 is actually passing through survey No. 32 ground and they claiming that their map is correct one.
He further added that some of the effected families met the Tehsildar Rangat to enquire about the status of the land and to which the Tehsildar reportedly stated that Survey No. 32 is deemed forest and no one on aforesaid survey number are eligible to get any compensation and also reportedly said that if required they will be vacated forcibly and the license given to them for land can be cancelled any time by the revenue department.
