Port Blair, Mar 12: Severe water crisis in Thiruvalluvar Nagar area of Bambooflat today forced dozens and dozens of people, mostly women, to hit the road and state protest against APWD and Administration.
Protesting people,who blocked road, alleged that since last several days due to total disruption of water supply many houses were struggling even to get drinking water and hence they had no other option than staging protest.
“We tried to call the JE of our area but his mobile was switched off,” alleged Zilla Parishad Member of the area, Mr. Sunderam.
On information a team of PS Bambooflat reached the spot and on assurance given by the SHO PS Bambooflat, to talk to concerned agencies and provide water by today evening, the agitation was called off.
Later the SHO PS Bambooflat, Mr. K Illangovan coordinated with concerned agencies and by noon nearly four water tanker-load of water reached the area.
