Port Blair, Mar 05: Mr. G Bhasker the ex-General Secretary of ANTCC has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to issue necessary directions to the Department of shipping to make additional suitable shipping services in additional to the existing services to Diglipur, Mayabunder etc areas.
In his recent letter to the Lt. Governor, Mr. G Bhasker said that travelling by buses/vehicles from Port Blair to Diglipur via Kadamtala is horrible as the road condition is very precarious.
Sufficient boat services are also not being made available to Diglipur/Mayabunder/ Rangat from Port Blair and vice versa by the Shipping Department on account of bus services to these areas. Some time past the Directorate of Shipping Services has been making the services of MV Coral Queen to Diglipur and Mayabunder, but recently its service has been withdrawn causing problems to the residents of North and Middle Andaman. Similarly the vehicle ferries being operated from Middle Strait to Baratang and Humphrey Strait to Kadamtala are not being operated as per time schedule due to one or the other reason creating tremendous problems to the passengers travelling in buses and other vehicles,” he said.
Mr. G Bhasker added that recently the people of North and Middle Andaman undertook a mass agitation in front of the District Office, Mayabunder demanding the above basic needs to be provided by the Administration without delay.
