Port Blair, Feb 22: The up-gradation work of Andaman Trunk Road from Chidiyatapu to Ferrargunj is almost complete but the ATR stretch from Ferragunj to Jirkatang is still in horrible shape, giving nightmares to people. The said road presently has huge potholes enough to cause fatal accident.
But now the NHIDCL has assured that within one month, the construction work for laying new road from Ferrargunj to Jirkatang will begin within one month.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma, the General Manger Project, NHIDCL said that presently only maintenance work is carried out on the said road stretch, 45KM to 59 KM of ATR (Ferrargunj to Jirkatang), which is in bad shape. He added that for the original work of constructing 5.5 mtr width road tendering process is already over. “Hopefully within a month they will start the construction works for new road,” Mr. Verma added.
As Andaman and Nicobar Islands witness pre-monsoon showers in April and full Monsoon in Mid May, many believe that further slip of dateline may mean further delay in completing this road laying work. However, once this stretch is completed, the ATR will become very comfortable for a driver from Port Blair to Middle Strait.
