Port Blair, Feb 19: Massive smoke came out of the engine compartment of a STS Bus this evening, leaving all passengers in deep panic.
The bus, packed with passengers, was going towards Ferrargunj from Port Blair and this incident took place while crossing Tushnabad area at around 7.30 PM. Luckily all passengers managed to escape the bus on time and hence no one sustained any injuries.
Suspecting fire many people of Tushnabad area reportedly poured waters in bucket on the engine of the Bus. It is believed that smoke came out because of overheating of wires near the engine, which could have resulted in a serious accident.
Passengers said that they saw smoke coming out of the engine and alleged that there was no fire extinguisher inside the bus however the Fire Brigade and Police teams are yet to confirm this.
After the incident all passengers abandoned the bus and made their own arrangements for forward journey.
Earlier in many occasions Andaman Sheekha had reported about pathetic maintenance of STS buses and this incident is just an indication that situation might become further worse in coming days.
