Port Blair, Feb 17: The Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with the Department of Education, Health, A&N Police Fire Services and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has organized Disaster Management Exhibition and Mock Drill on 15.02.2019 at Mahatma Gandhi International School, Brookshabad under AMRUT City (Port Blair) to generate adequate and appropriate awareness amongst the school children on the basics of disaster management as per the initiative of the National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi.
During the mock drill, all students, teachers & other staffs carried out “DUCK-COVER and HOLD” positions for few minutes after receipt of warning in their respective classes/places for earthquake safety and then safely evacuated and assembled at identified safer place. SAR team rescued the missing/injured students using Search & Rescue techniques from the classes and provided medical first Aid by MFR Team. The School Response System on emergencies was checked and observed by the officers from Disaster Management, A&N Police Fire Services, Health and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Mr. Gyan Singh, Asst. Director (Logistics), Mr. Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer, Dr. Vazeem Iqbal, Consultant, DDM, Dr. Shankar, DHS, Mr. Rajesh, SI, Fire Services and Mr. Ravi Ranjan SI, NDRF were appreciated the efforts of the school family for actively participation and followed the steps of mock drill. Lesson learnt, gaps and solutions were also discussed during debriefing session.
Disaster Management Exhibition was also organized in the school which was inaugurated by Smt. RahidhaKabir, Principal of the above school wherein displayed exhibits i.e. IEC materials, SAR Equipment, Fire Extinguishers, MFR Kits. The exhibits were also briefed to the students by the Officials of DM, DHS, Fire & NDRF Team, in a communication said Assistant Director (Log.), Directorate of DM, A & N Administration.
