Port Blair, Feb 07: Shortage of Doctors at PHC Campbell Bay for the last few weeks is causing huge problems for the patients, who have to wait in long queues daily to meet the Doctor.
At present there is only one allopathic doctor at PHC Campbell Bay, Dr. Helen Samuel, who is also the Medical Officer. Dr. Helen Samuel now has to take care of both OPD and Ward Patients all alone. Many patients come to the PHC from far flung areas and again they have to wait for several hours to see a doctor.
Patients visiting the hospital alleged that because Great Nicobar Islands a far flung Island, the Administration is not serious about the Health Care system in the Islands.
Meanwhile the Pradhan of Campbell Bay Gram Panchayat has also written a letter to the Director of Health Services demanding sufficient number of Doctors for the PHC.
Adding to the plight of patient, now it has also been learnt by Andaman Sheekha that the lone Ambulance of the Hospital is also out of order since a long time and now it has been declared un-serviceable. At present an ambulance from PHC Gandhinagar has been stationed at PHC Campbell Bay but when PHC Gandhinagar requires the ambulance again it causes problems at PHC Campbell Bay.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Director of Health Services Dr.K.L.Janardhan DHS. he said that the matter was not brought to his knowledge till now but he assured necessary action.
Meanwhile, taking to Andaman Sheekha the Pradhan of Campbell Bay Panchayat, Mr. K Raja said that if the Administration does not send sufficient Doctors soon then villagers will have take necessary steps.
