Port Blair, Jan 24: Bringing the Police Week Celebrations to a close, a mega event in the form of ‘POLICE UTSAV-2019’ was organized by Andaman & Nicobar Police on 23.01.2019 at ITF Ground, Port Blair, which evoked a huge public response. Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Mr. Chetan Bhushan Sanghi, IAS, was the Chief Guest on the occasion who motivated the participants with his graceful presence. He visited number of stalls and attended the cultural programme and gave prizes to the winners of the Annual Athletic Meet of Andaman & Nicobar Police. Vice Admiral Bimal Kumar Verma, AVSM C-in-C, Andaman Nicobar Command was the Guest of Honour.
Police Utsav-2019 comprised of number of attractions including Dog Show, Fashion show, Fancy Dress show, Performance of Police Entertainment Team, police families & guest artists, Musical Chair programme and other amusement for the children, besides a large number of stalls displaying different variety of items of the Islands. Police Utsav was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life including senior officers from A&N Administration, Forest department, Police, Armed Force, Member of Electronic & Print media, general public and police families.
It was on 16th January, 1953, that Mr. Naushirwan Feroz Sauntook, the first IPS officer took over the charge of the Superintendent of Police from Mr. M. Macfarland. This day is celebrated as the “Raising Day” of the Andaman & Nicobar Police and the week following is celebrated as Police Week.
This year during Police Week (16th – 23rd January, 2019), various programmes and activities were organized by all the units and districts of Andaman & Nicobar Police to improve Police Public Interface such as awareness drives on social and contemporary issues in schools, colleges & residential areas, cultural-cum-interaction programmes involving public & police families, visit of school children to Police Stations, Jan sambark & Citizen Committee meetings, nukkar-natak and performances by Police Entertainment Team & Police Band, Health Camps, Swacchhtya Abhiyaan, etc. These were also in furtherance of #New Andamans initiatives.
Police Utsav was organized under the aegis of Police Family Welfare Centre (PFWC) under the guidance of President, PFWC, Smt. Geeta Pathak who also gave prizes to the participants of various events.
Addressing the large gathering of people, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS, thanked them for making the Police Utsav a huge success. He also praised the efforts of Police Family Welfare Centre and different units of Andaman & Nicobar Police for taking an active part in Police Week Celebrations and in contributing towards effective Public-Police Interface. He also praised the performance of the Police Entertainment Team & police families during the colourful & mesmerizing cultural programme, which enthralled and captivated the entire gathering through various songs, dances & skits on contemporary & social issues such as Cyber Crime fraud. He further motivated everyone to render better services to the people and appealed them to show greater professionalism and sensitivity in their functioning.
The entire function of Police Utsav was organized by a team comprising of DSP Nishant Gupta, AC Naveen Kumar, Inspector L.S. Yadav, Inspector Jyoti Chattwal and HC Washeem Khan, under the overall supervision of Ms. Usha Rangnani, IPS, Superintendent of Police (AP), as said in a press release by Superintendent of Police (AP), Andaman & Nicobar Police.
