
Port Blair, Jan 24: The Department of Art & Culture has taken up restoration of three Japanese bunkers of World War II with the support of INTACH, A&N Chapter. Out of these three bunkers, two are located near the Water Sports Complex on the way to Dugnabad and one on the Carbyn’s cove Beach.
Smti Neha Bansal, Secretary (Art & Culture) inaugurated these renovated Japanese bunkers in a simple function today in presence of Shri Shubhankar Ghosh, Director (Art & Culture), Shri Alex Varghese, Executive Engineer, PBSD, APWD, Ms Samhita Veda Acharya, Convenor, INTACH, A&N Chapter and others. Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary (Art & Culture) said that it's a collaborative effort of the department with INTACH which is a premier organization well known for its restoration and conservation works all over the country and important step towards conservation of our heritage.
These renovated Japanese Bunkers will remain open for the tourists from 9 a. m to 6 p.m.
