Port Blair, Jan. 20: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Development, led by its Chairman, Mr. Pinaki Misra arrived here on a three day visit to the Islands. The members of the Committee included S/Mr. Srinivas Kesineni Nani, K Parasuraman, Dr. Anil Agrawal and Mr. K C Ramamurthy. On arrival, the Committee visited National Memorial Cellular Jail and Anthropological Museum at ASI Regional Centre, Port Blair.
Later, in the afternoon, the Committee visited ongoing projects of Solid Waste Management, Development of Smart Cities, Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Urban), Rain Water Harvesting in Metropolitan Cities and AMRUT & HRIDAY. These include Gandhi Park Compost Yard & Resource Center, High Flag Mast, South Point, Compost Yard at GSSS Girls, Open Air Gym at Marina Park and Smart e-Toilet at Cellular Jail.
The Committee also visited Subhash Chandra Bose Island and witnessed Sound and Light show there.
On Jan.21, 2019, the Committee will hold informal discussion with the representatives of UT of Port Blair, District Administration, local Municipal authorities, CPWD, HUDCO, NBCC, NHB, HPL, SBI, Syndicate Bank and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Solid Waste Management, Development of Smart Cities, Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY-U), Rain Water Harvesting in Metropolitan Cities, AMRUT and HRIDAY.
On completion of the visit, the Committee will leave for mainland the same day.
