Port Blair, Jan 09: 30th Road Safety Week is being observed by A & N Police from 07th to 13th January, 2019. Various activities to increase awareness about the Road Safety are being carried out by A & N Police. In this series, a Road Safety Walk was organized on 09-01-2019. The Director General of Police, A & N Islands Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS flagged off the Road Safety Walk from Cellular Jail. It culminated in front of Netaji Stadium after taking the route through Clock Tower and Model School.
Around 1400 students from various schools and institutions participated by holding banners, placards with slogans related to traffic safety rules. Besides school children, college students, NCC cadets, sport authority faculty, police personnel and general public showed their concern and solidarity for Road Safety by participating in the rally in large number.
Director General of Police Mr. Dependra Pathak, IPS and other Senior Officers of A&N Police, Police Band and Pipe Band walked along with the students till the end. The participants were addressed by DGP in which he said that the students can make a lot of difference if they start pointing out if anyone known to them violates any traffic rule. He further said that the safe driving is the responsibility of the individual towards general public.
Moreover, lectures were organised in various educational institutions. SI Thomas Kutty and SI Dinesh Meena along with traffic staff visited schools and addressed the students. Approximately 250 students of Govt. Girls. Sr. Sec. School and Carmel Sr. Sec. School were made aware of the basic traffic rules.
