Port Blair, Jan 09: The residents of Birdline and Brichgunj today stopped as many as three trucks, loaded with quarry materials, on Brichgunj road and handed over the same to police department.
Because of two recent major accidents involving heavy trucks, loaded with quarry materials near Brichgunj Sloop residents of the area had gathered in the area and demanded total suspension of all six and ten wheeler trucks on the road.
Today according to villagers some police officials and revenue officials had tried to convince public to allow operation of six wheeler trucks but the residents did not agree.
It is expected that the residents of the area might organized a protest at the Brichgunj area against movement of heavily loaded trucks from the area, which, according to them, has become a threat to the life of the public. Residents are demanding that such heavily loaded trucks must use an alternate road, which goes via Corbyn’s area.
