Port Blair, Jan.1: The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs distributes sugar also alongwith rice and fortified wheat flour to the NFSA beneficiaries under the Govt. of India’s Sugar subsidy scheme. Due to Administrative reasons sugar could not be supplied after October, 2017. All the issues of procurement and transportation of sugar have been resolved in the last two months and the commodity has reached Chennai on Dec.28 and is under transportation to Port Blair. The Department will start distribution of sugar to FPS by 1st week of January, 2019.
The NFSA beneficiaries have been advised to purchase their quota of sugar from their respective FPS from 1st week of January, 2019 alongwith PDS foodgrains. The backlog quota of sugar from the month of November, 2017 for twelve months at a monthly fixed entitlement of 1 kg per family per month @ Rs.15/- and Rs.30/- per kg for AAY and PHH families respectively can be collected from concerned FPS. The eligible families may collect their entitled sugar quota in installment also.
