Port Blair, Dec 31:ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair celebrated the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Pakhwara from 16th to 31st December 2018. During the fortnight long celebration various activities viz. taking pledge, cleanliness drive, awareness rally, demonstration of waste management, safe disposal of kitchen waste, composting and vermi composting demonstration, planting tree sapling, demonstration of clean and green farming in the farmers fields, beach cleaning of Carbyanes cove etc were organised. The valedictory function of the fortnightly long celebration was organised on 31st December 2018.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI informed that along with the whole country our institute is also contributing for the fulfilment of the dream of Shri. Mahatma Gandhi to make our country clean and green as emphasized by Govt. of India. He lauded the effort of all the staff members for taking active participation in each and every activity organised during the programme. He also stressed the importance of agriculture in the changing climatic scenario and urged everybody not to waste any food and adopt the principle of reduce, reuse and recycle.
Earlier Dr. I. Jaisankar gave a detailed report about the various activities which were organised during the fortnight. On the occasion the winners of quiz competition and drawing competition were also awarded. A total of 50 students from Model School, Ummat Public School, Saraswati Shishu mandir, VKV, KV-II, School line school participated in the competitions. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Jai Sunder, Pr Scientist and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. I. Jaisankar, Co-Nodal Officer, SBM.
