Port Blair, Dec 28: Along with rest of India the Pradesh Congress Committee, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has also observed the 134th Foundation Day of Indian National Congress Party at 10.00 a.m. on 28th December 2018 in the premises of Gandhi Bhavan, Port Blair. Senior Leaders and supporters of Congress party have attended the function in large number. The gathering was addressed by Smti. Shanta Singh, Vice President, PCC, Mr. Noor Islam, Chief Organiser, Congress Seva Dal and other leaders of Congress party.
Smti. Shanta Singh , Vice President , PCC while addressing the gathering said that Indian National Congress is one of the oldest democratic party in the world founded on this day in the year 1885. Describing the history of Congress party and its contribution for Indian independence, Smt. Shanta Singh said that during the pre-independence era , the Indian National Congress was the sole representative of the country to fight for Independent India. The INC under the leadership and guidance of Mahatma Gandhi steered the historic movement of freedom struggle and freed her from the slavery of the British rule. Congress leader Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was one of the front runner in the India’s struggle for independence, became the first Prime Minister of independent India and from there on all round development of the country and also of these Islands began. She said, the Congress Party has faced various challenges in the past and the people of India had time and again tested and found that Congress is the only Party which can be trusted for overall socioeconomic development of all sections of society without any discrimination based on caste, colour, creed and religion. She said that Mr. Modi and his NDA government had failed to fulfill the electoral promises made to the people during the election campaign of 2014 such as employment generation, checking price rise, industrial growth, bringing back black money of Indian industrialists, businessman and high profile personalities stashed in the foreign bank etc. Smti. Shanta Singh also elaborated the sufferings being faced by common man, small traders, fishermen and tourism sector in these islands because of demonetization and GST.
She said since Mr. Modi came in power, the public money and government resources are lavishly being used for propaganda and campaign of the BJP to which he belongs. Here in Andaman & Nicobar Islands too , one can find that the civic reception to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi being given by the A&N Administration on expenditure out of public exchequer, the Netaji Stadium is all-round displayed by the BJP’s political flag and not even a single National Tri Colour is seen flying whereas the function is organized for “ TIRANGA @ 75”. Further as a last minute attempt to bring crowd to the arena of civic reception, the Administration has showcased a musical programme prior to the address by the Prime Minister Mr. Modi by inviting the singing celebrities from Mainland. Mr. Noor Islam, Chief Organiser, Congress Seva Dal and other speakers have also elaborated the history of congress party and the contributions made by its leaders for the independence and the development of India and requested the party man to work hard to strengthen the Congress party. They said, that the people of India has got dejected and disillusioned by the performance of Mr .Modi led NDA government since they came to power in 2014. The victory of Congress Party in recent Assembly Elections of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh defeating BJP is the sign of Congress revival in Indian politics and growing faith in leadership of Mr. Rahul Gandhi.
