Only 2 Lakh Compensation for Juvenile home victims
Port Blair, July 30: When an under-trial died inside District Jail in 2011, the Lt. Governor sanctioned a sum of Rs. 2 Lakhs from the LG’s relief fund to the next of kin and a govt. job to a member of the family of deceased. Not only this, the Lt. Governor also allotted a seat to the son of the deceased in B.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering Stream) at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Dollygunj.
But irony of these Islands is that when two government servants were killed while performing their duties last Saturday, they were given equal treatment by Raj Niwas. Their contributions were not even acknowledged by the Administration.
Those who are killed while performing their duties must be treated as Martyrs but unfortunately instead of announcing awards or honour for them the have been given only Rs. 2 Lakh as compensation. Isn’t it disheartening?
