Port Blair, Dec 11: Complete blackout of mobile internet in major parts of Katchal Island, has become a constant source of disappointment for the residents, especially those government servants, who are posted in the Islands, far away from their family.
According to public, areas like Sallo Tikery, Japan Tikery and Mill Dera, which are fairly populated, used to get GPRS connections long back but since last nearly two months the GPRS signals are gone and there is no one in the Island to respond to the complaint of the public.
People living in these areas now feel totally disconnected from rest of the world and are unable to receive even basic news of shipping and helicopter services via social media.
However, Islanders complain that Katchal thana and Guest House area still have GPRS connection.
Andaman Sheekha took up the matter with BSNL and obvious reply was that senior officers had no clue about this problem. Later a responsible senior officer of BSNL after cross check told Andaman Sheekha that this problem is because of old BTS, which will be replaced with a new one, within one month of time. The officer of BSNL, who does not want his name to be quoted, assured Andaman Sheekha that once installed, new BTS will solve the internet problem of the entire Island.
