Port Blair, Dec 06: Rajya Sainik Board, Andaman and Nicobar Islands will commemorate Armed Forces Flag Day on 7th December 2018 to remember the services rendered by personnel of Armed Forces.
To celebrate the day, six member delegation of the board will call on the Lt. Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Admiral DK Joshi (retired). Secretary, A&N Rajya Sainik Board will pin a miniature national flag on the wearing apparel of the Lt. Governor, on the occasion.
The Flag Day is intended to honour the valiant and dead, to salute the veterans and brave and to enhance the traditional bonds that exist between citizens of the country and the Armed Forces. This day is observed to enlist the public co-operation and support for three basic purposes – 1) Rehabilitation of families of battle casualties 2) Welfare of serving personnel and their families and 3) Re-settlement and welfare of Ex-Servicemen and their families, in general.
On this day, citizens and volunteer organisations collect donations in exchange of token flags and car stickers throughout the country. Token Flags and Car Flags representing the three services are distributed to the public through Rajya/Zila Sainik Boards. A concerted effort is made on this day to raise collection from the public. Token flags and Car Stickers are distributed through various Schools/Colleges/PUC’s and Government Organizations/Departments by A&N Rajya Sainik Board, Port Blair for raising funds for various welfare schemes to assist our disabled soldiers, their widows and dependents of those who sacrificed their lives for the Nation.
Lt. Governor of A & N Islands has also appealed to all the islanders to contribute generously to the Flag Day Fund. The Collections made on 7th December are pooled into one fund known as Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) Fund and Amalgamated Special Fund at the Centre and States respectively. The Fund money is used to the cause of well being of the Ex-Servicemen and their dependents and for the welfare and rehabilitation of Ex-servicemen community.
Islanders have been requested to send their precious contributions by post in favour of “Armed Forces Flag Day Fund” to Secretary, Rajya Sainik Board, Veer Senani Bhavan, Haddo P.O., Port Blair-744102 through Cheque/Banker’s Cheque/Demand Draft etc or may deposit the cash directly in the SBI A/c. No. 10605083942 “Armed Forces Flag Day Fund” and intimate the same to A&N Rajya Sainik Board. This Donation is also exempted under Income Tax Act. A&N Rajya Sainik Board has requested islanders to contribute generously.
