Rangat, Nov 19: The NHIDCL has failed miserably in keeping promise to upgrade the Andaman Trunk Road on time and Administration has also failed to create any pressure on NHIDCL in this regard. People of A & N Islanders are suffering heavily due to delay in repair and up-gradation of ATR.
Instead of waiting for NHIDCL, now some teachers, mostly from GSS Padmanabhapuram, GSS Shivapuram and one teacher from GSSS Swadeshnagar School, Middle Andaman joined hands and repaired few major potholes of Middle Andaman region.
Everybody knows that the Andaman Trunk Road stretch, between Baratang and Rangat is in horrible shape. Some potholes are so big that it looks more like a Crater than pothole.
Such massive potholes often cause accidents and damage vehicles. When after several complaints the ATR in Middle Andaman region is not repaired, around 12 teachers of Middle Andaman region, joined hands together and repaired a few major potholes themselves.
These teachers including lady teachers, collected boulders, stones from road side and filled these massive potholes and then leveled the place with earth. Although this is not a permanent solution but for now, such arrangements, will be of great relief for all ATR commuters. Atleast efforts of these teachers to work for several hours to fill these massive potholes themselves, must be lauded. Hope such acts will help the Administration to understand that how bad the situation is in North and Middle Andaman.
This is important to note that NHIDCL is unable to carryout repair works even after having funds worth crores and here Middle Andaman Teachers with no money managed to repair a few major potholes. Teachers play a very crucial role in any society in this case they have probably taught NHIDCL that “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
