Port Blair, Nov 11: The first Drug De-addiction and Counselling Centre of Andaman and Nicobar Islands “Ummeed” was inaugurated at Chakraborty Muitispecialty Hospital yesterday evening. The centre will operate in Association with the Specialist, Dr. Mitesh Behari, MBBS,M.D (Psychiatry) .
The centre was inaugurated by the Mrs. Pratima Bannerjee, Vice Chairperson of PBMC in presence of Mr. Aziz-ul Rahman (State General Secretary, TDP).
During the inauguration ceremony Dr.Sudip Chakraborty said that it is the first de-addiction centre, which started functioning in Andaman in Association with Dr. Mitesh Behari, MBBS, MD.
“Our aim is to help people overcome addiction and to guide them towards right direction to live a healthy life. For treatment we have preventive as well as curative options,” Dr. Chakroborty said.
He added that in preventive measures the team will reach out to community and visit community halls, schools and panchayats to spread awareness against substance abuse.
The centre will offer facilities like Alcohol De-addiction, Drug Abuse Consultation, De-Toxification, Substance Abuse etc.
