Port Blair, July 24: Port Blair city is witnessing unprecedented Power Crisis. Sadly situation is same in some other remote Islands too. Neil Island, which is just a few KM away from Port Blair city has also caught the ‘Power Crisis’ cold. The Islands is reported to be without power supply for longer than three hours in a day. The power cuts are also without any given schedule because of which the islanders are facing huge difficulties since last many weeks.
Because of indiscriminate power crisis neither traders are able to do business nor are students able to study properly. Villagers are having problems in operating motors for irrigation and other household appliances.
Villagers of Neil Island allege that pilferage of HSD oil, from the power house of Neil Island, is the main reason behind the power cut.
According to villagers HSD oil in huge quantity is available in black in Neil Island for engine dinghies and make-shift petrol pumps.
Islanders suspect that this HSD oil actually comes from Neil’s only power house, which explains why Neil Island experience more than three hour long power cuts everyday.
