
Port Blair, Oct 31: ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’, the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Unifier of India, was celebrated in the A&N Islands, along with the rest of the country today. As part of the birth anniversary celebration of Sardar Patel, a ‘Run for Unity’ was organized by the Directorate of Education & Sports here today. The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), as the chief guest of the event, flagged off the ‘Run’ at the Netaji Stadium here this morning. Before flagging off the Run, the Lt Governor also administered the ‘Pledge for Unity’ to the people present on the occasion.
The Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Mr. Sanjib Kumar Mandal, Senior Officers of the Administration, Padmashree Awardee, Mr. Naresh Chander Lall besides other prominent senior citizens of the city were present. A large number of students from various schools, JNRM, ANCOL, TGCE besides sportspersons from Sports Authority of India, Andaman & Nicobar Sports Academy, representatives from Coast Guard, CISF, Andaman & Nicobar Police, IRBn, NSS & NYK volunteers participated in the ‘Run for Unity’. The Run, which started from Netaji Stadium, passed through Clock Tower, Model School, Post Office, Bengali Club, Light House, Gandhi Chowk, Narayan Chowk and culminated back at Netaji Stadium.
