Port Blair, July 21: Rains are back and so are the worries of residents living in Mahavir Nagar Colony, Birdline. Potholes with yawning gaps greet them soon as they step out of their houses and when they hit the main roads of the area, it is bumpy ride most of the way.
The residents of Mahavir Nagar are vexed with driving on the caved-in roads. Some of the portion do not even have the top surface of the road.
Flying dust, water stagnation and potholes on the roads are making it tough for motorists to drive in such poor conditions. “Accidents is something common I watch everyday motorists fell due to slippery as there are muds in the roads and because of pond like potholes,” Ram Kishen Tiwari a resident of Mahavir Nagar told Andaman Sheekha today.
After the recent rains, the road conditions have turned from bad to worse in Mahavir Nagar colony. Since a decade authorities are constructing this road, yet the works remain incomplete. At a few locations, they took up minor repair works but still majority of road portion is yet to be repaired in the Mahavir colony road which connects Birdline to Bhathubasti.
It’s a short-cut to reach Bhathubasti for the people who comes from Childyatapu, Birdline, Calicut, Beodnabad but instead of taking short-cut these people take detours to reach their workplaces considering it a safe way.
When contacted the Pradhan Mahavir Nagar Mrs Madhu Lall told Andaman Sheekha that the tender has already been floated on 26/06/2012, but some formalities are still to be completed. “The documents from the Executive Engineers office have not yet received,” she added. This is high time for the authorities to take up repair work for the road repair, before someone dies of road accident on the said stretch of road.
