Port Blair, July 22: The Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union organized a programme for distribution of certificates to the trainees of two months’ duration ‘garments-making and fashion designing course’ under the Rural Entrepreneurship Development Programme of NABARD in the Community Hall, Chouldari, South Andaman on Sunday, the 22nd July 2012 which was graced by Mr. S. B. S. Tyagi, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District as the Chief Guest. Mr. Tyagi also distributed the certificates to the trainees — who were 25 (twenty-five) in number.
In his welcome address Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A&N State Cooperative Union informed the gathering that the A&N State Cooperative Union is committed to the overall development of the people living at the grass-root level of this union territory, particularly the women folk of the rural society. Therefore, this Union has programmed to open such training centres in some more rural pockets of these Islands – so that the rural people, especially women, after coming under this training ambit may avail the optimum benefits thereof, ultimately for income-generation and earning livelihood for their family (ies).
In his address, the Chief Guest Mr. S. B. S. Tyagi lauded the efforts made by the A&N State Cooperative Union in association with NABARD. He said that such programme is much fruitful for the unemployed housewives from the point of view that they may generate some income for their family after getting such training. Mr. Tyagi also expressed his views widening activities for computer application – which has great potential for self-employment. 0 Keeping it in view he urged that the Union should impart training programmes in the field of computer application in large scale. He also requested the A&NSCU & NABARD to arrange similar training programme(s) in the field of hotel management and tourism sector inasmuch as there is a great scope of self-employment in the aforesaid two segments in these Islands.
Mr. Nripendra Nath Nag, Member, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman in his speech said that the A&N State Coop. Union is doing commendable jobs in rural development, particularly for the people of grass-root level. ‘In addition to that’, Mr. Nag said, “the Union is imparting regular training programmes in its ‘Rajiv Gandhi Coop. Training Centre’ – wherefrom members of cooperative societies can get proper trainings to run their respective coop, societies”.
Mr. Subhas Dey, Pradhan, Chouldari Gram Panchayat, South Andaman in his brief address expressed his pleasure and indebtedness to the A&N State Coop. Union for selecting Chouldari village for such training programme. He further said that there are some other villages under Chouldari Gram Panchayat – where such programme could be arranged. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Ram Lall, General Secretary, A&N State Cooperative Union.
