Port Blair, Oct 11: Drug addiction is slowly becoming one of the biggest problems of Andaman Nicobar Islands and indulgence of youths in drug addiction, now poses a serious threat to the future of these Islands.
According to reports, Ganja, also known as Marijuana, is now widely available in every corner of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and even students have easy access to Ganja.
Recently an abandoned government quarter of VIP road was raided by a group of responsible citizens and while raiding, they noted that some youths escaped from the abandoned government quarter, after seeing those people approaching. But the youths, in hurry left behind all the evidences that how that old and discarded government quarter was being used by them as hub of drug addiction. One can’t deny presence of school students also in that government quarter, said one of the responsible citizen who raided the house.
The said government quarter, which is covered by bushes from every side, had a natural protection for the youths and inside the quarter, the people who raided the house, reportedly found empty beer bottles, cigarette buds and other small and big devices, which are used for Ganja addiction.
Earlier in some occasions Ganja have been recovered from students of various schools in Port Blair City.
The availability of Ganja in Port Blair city now raised serious questions over the role of security agencies and also Andaman Nicobar Police.
Despite of the fact that Andaman’s entry points are limited and are under security forces, Ganja is easily entering inside Andamans. Today drug smugglers are sending Ganja, who knows, tomorrow they might use the same network to send RDX in Andaman, public fears.
Sadly our security agencies are unable to track down the actual Ganja smugglers who are playing with the future these Islands.
Now Islanders are demanding that the Andaman Nicobar police must form a special team of experts in narcotics cases, so that they could identify and arrest the suppliers of Ganja and the drug peddlers in Andaman Nicobar Island to safeguard the future of these Islands.
