Port Blair, Oct 08: In an interesting development today in South Andaman Zilla Parisahad’s Adhyaksh elections, Congress Candidates captured both the seats of Adhyaksh and Up-Adhyaksh. The South Andaman Zilla Parishad had 10 BJP Members and 8 Congress Members but after resignation of Mr. MK Sundaram ( Zilla Parishad Member, Shore Point Constituency) from BJP, the equation became 9 BJP and 9 Congress.
A special meeting for election of Adhyaksh and Up-Adhyaksh of South Andaman Zilla Parishad was convened today by the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman and as per the equations there was tie as both the candidates of BJP and Congress got 9 votes each.
Later a lottery was conducted after which INC candidate Mr. Sanjiv Mandal, Zilla Parishad Member from Tusnabad Constituency and Mr. Dashrath Verma, Zilla Parishad Member from Neil Island Constituency were declared as Adhyaksh and Up-Adhyaksh of South Andaman Zilla Parishad.
