Port Blair, Sept 09: Major portion of Andaman Trunk Road is still at the mercy of God, with several land-sliding areas, which are posing serious risk to ATR passengers.
Andaman Sheekha had earlier reported about two major land sliding areas inside the Jarawa Tribal Reserve Forest, between Middle Strain and Jirkatang, which have not been repaired yet.
Now a new land sliding area has developed near Gandhi Ghat Jetty and because of this some portion of road has already been collapse and for safety of people, drums have been placed on the road by the authorities.
PRI members of North and Middle Andaman Islands are demanding that these land sliding areas must be attended immediately by NHIDCL because in case there is an accident tomorrow on these site, hundreds of people will have to suffer consequences. Everyday dozens of private and government buses cross these land sliding, accident prone areas and nobody knows how long the road close to the land-sliding area will hold. PRI members of Baratang are also urging the DC North and Middle Andaman and the Chief Secretary to visit these sites.
