Port Blair, Sept 06: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, had to face the brunt of anger brewing among local youths, when he visited Bahtu Basti Junction, one of the areas, where large number of youths had gathered to demand Implementation of Inner Line Permit.
According to reports, angry over recent statement of MP, calling demand for Inner Line Permit unconstitutional, hundreds of youths gheraoed the MP and shouted slogans like “MP go back” and “Bangladeshi go Back”, as soon as he reached the protest site.
Angry youths also hurled water bottles on police vehicles, in which the Police personnel were trying to take the MP out of the area. The vehicle was also blocked by mob for nearly 15 minutes during which many protesters were seen abusing MP for giving statement against Inner Line Permit demand.
Meanwhile, soon after this incident, Islands were buzzing with all kind of rumours regarding this incident, some said that MP was attacked while other said his vehicle was burned by protesters. Even some social media messages also triggered these rumours.
Meanwhile, due to presence of Police team, who did their duty very efficiently, the MP was taken away from the protest site safely.
Call it coincidence or bad timing that just a few minute before visit of the Member of Parliament the president of BJP, A&N Unit, Mr. Vishal Jolly visited the area.
This is worth mentioning here is that Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray was the only leader who had cleared his stand very openly infront of everyone well before the Bandh while most of the other politicians neither come out in open in support of ILP nor said anything against it.
It is however, still not clear whether this reaction of public was a well planned move or happened because heat of the moment and also because the MP went to wrong place in wrong time.
