Port Blair, Aug 21: Setting an example, the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, havetaken an initiative to help people of Kerala, who are now suffering from natural calamity. Dozens and Dozens of faceless and responsible Islanders with the help ofthe MP, Mr.BishnuPada Ray, have raised the fund amounting to Rs. 93,910/- (in rupees) and collected the relief materials worth around 25,00,000 for the flood hit people of Kerala.
Addressing a joint press conference with the people who headed this noble mission, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. BishnuPada Ray today said that various organizations and individuals donated generously for this noble cause. Organizations which have contributed for this cause are DBRAIT ALMA, Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Grains dealers & Grocers Association, Andaman Bar Owners Association, Rotary club, Department of Industries
Yellow Army, Andaman SahiSevaSamiti, Hindu SevaSangh, Andaman Fiesta, Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Aashish arts, Shop Keepers Association of Bambooflat, Gurudhwara Aberdeen Bazaar, Mohanpura Vegetable(old) Market & Chicken & Mutton stall, Mohanpura market (new), Ratnam market vegetable association, Andaman gold and silver merchant association, Staffs of ITI, Staffs of RDS, CDIII, APWD, Port Blair, SKSSF A&N Islands and JunglighatDurga Puja committee.
All the materials are then stored, sorted, segregated and packed in 750 rescue kits containing cloths, basic needs, eatables item and water at DBRAIT under the supervision of DBRAIT alumni namely Mr. Reji Thomas, and staffs.
Packing was done with the help of volunteers of students from DBRAIT and officers and men of Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy. All the rescue kits are going to be airlifted by Andaman Nicobar Command to Kerala. This morning around 2.5MT relief materials were airlifted to Kerala through aircraft of ANC.
