Port Blair, July 16: Tsunami affected farmers who were arrested at ITF Grounds after the Road Roko Andolan at Sippighat this morning, were discharged on SDM’s orders by evening.
However, about 100-150 agitating farmers after their discharge decided to march towards Raj Niwas to press for their demands. Farmers have been protesting against the Administration’s compensation clause of cash in lieu of submerged land. The Member of Parliament is leading the agitating farmers.
“We will sit infornt of Raj Niwas till our demands are fulfilled,” Rajesh Lall the General Secretary of Gram Vikas Samity told Andaman Sheekha.
Till last report poured in farmers had gheraoed Raj Niwas and were waiting for some assurance from the side of Administration.
The ANI Admn is yet to clarify or change their stand even after a delegation of farmers alongwith the MP visited Delhi and met the Prime Minister and other ministers. Farmers have announced that they are not willing to surrender their submerged land in lieu of the cash compensation package announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
