Port Blair, July 16: Humane Touch launched anti-alcoholism campaign by organising an awareness programme and a film show at Bambooflat on 13th February 2012.
Citing an example of people’s power in Shore Point village, Debkumar Bhadra said that an alert society can easily stop coming up of liquor shops in their locality. He also appealed the gathering to join the campaign and work towards making the territory alcohol-free.
Zubair Ahmed, Editor The Light of Andamans also spoke on the adverse affect of alcoholism and the need for awareness as well as activism to stop this menace from spreading its ugly tentacles.
Humane Touch is planning to take this campaign forward and reach all vulnerable areas and create awareness among the Islanders.
A video documentary was also screened at the venue highlighting the impact of alcoholism in the society. Earlier, K P Mohammed Younus, President, Humane Touch welcomed the gathering and N Abdul Salam proposed vote of thanks.
