Port Blair, July 15: The President, UNNATI, has requested the Lt. Governor to issue necessary directives for development of grazing land after removal of encroachments in such areas and allocation of adequate fund to Animal Husbandry department for development of grazing land in different villages.
Expressing gratitude to the LG for approving financial assistance to promote livestock activities in these islands, Mr C Mohammed said this is the first time such need based and long demand of the farmers for milch cattle, poultry, piggery goatary etc were genuinely addressed. “The decision will go a long way in enhancing the socio economic condition of farmers as also making available milk, meat and egg in different parts of the territory,” he said. UNNATI on demand of Brindaban Panchayat adopted their Panchayat in association with Animal Husbandry department and other concerned department for promotion of livestock activities and to finalise the details of the activities a meeting was also held at Brindaban Panchayat on 11.07.2012 with the active participation of Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and agriculture in which about 300 unemployed youths famers and member of Self Help Groups participated. UNNATI will provide loan to interested beneficiaries under NABARD supported JLG to purchase for milch cattle, goatary, piggery and poultry farming. During the meeting, they demanded good breed milch cattle and goats, pigs and one day old chicks feeds on subsidized rate. The new initiative of Lt. Governor will resolve all their demands, he added.
