Port Blair, July 20: The Sagar Dweep Jetty, which is situated at the other end of the famous Ross & Smith Island at Diglipur is now in a highly dilapidated condition.
The Jetty, constructed about 23 years ago, was never repaired after that people added. Hundreds of people are residing in nearby region and daily Government boat connects the jetty twice a day but still the condition of the Jetty is hardly noticed by authorities.
About 14 wooden dinghies of farmers and fishermen carry people to various islands from this Jetty on daily basis and public fear that on any day a major accident can happen on this Jetty.
Some contractors are utilizing this jetty as storage of crusher products.
A new jetty is being constructed nearby since a long long time but the approach to the new jetty is yet to be constructed. The public is now demanding immediate repair of this jetty on priority basis until the work for approach for the new jetty is completed.
