Port Blair, July 19: As a part of 69th Van Mahotsav 2018, celebration, National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit No.1, in association with the Forest Extension & Publicity Division, Department of Forest & Environment, Andaman and Nicobar Administration organised a mass tree planting programme at JNRM today.
Dr. N. Francis Xavier, Principal who was the Chief Guest on the occasion planted a sapling along with staff and students. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. N. Francis Xavier said trees and forests are the greatest treasure for mankind and we need to conserve them so that we get the benefits forever. He appreciated the NSS Unit and Volunteers, NCC cadets and thanked the Forest Extension & Publicity Division for organising the tree plantation programme in the Campus This year saplings of the historical bread fruit tree were planted in the campus.
Mr. S. K.Roy, Range Officer, addressing the Students urged the students to plant and nurture at least one tree to its full growth in a year. Mr. Upen Chandra Baroi, Deputy Range Officer and other forest officials were also present and planted saplings. Dr. Kandimuthu, Assistant Professor& Programme officer coordinated the programme.In his welcome address he said NSS Volunteers are always motivated to do such activities to protect the Earth & Environment and this is occasion to resolve the same
Along with the NSS Volunteers the NCC Cadets under the leadership ofDr. Satyam Setia, Associate Professor, Department of English &Dr.C.Partibhan,and Assistant Professor & NCC Officers, participated and planted saplings.Smti. Pearl Devdas, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Geography, Mr. Saji Joseph, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Physical Education, Mr. N.Balakrishnan, Associate Professor ,Department of Political Science, and Mr. K. Venkatesan, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Home Science, also Participated and planted saplings in the Campus on this occasion.
