Port Blair, July 04: Everyday we can see that dozen and dozen Traffic police jawans are deployed in various corners of Port Blair city to impose challan on two-wheeler riders. From the dedication of Traffic Jawans to target only two wheeler riders it seems that entire Traffic Police unit has been constituted only to impose challan on two-wheeler riders.
But what about heavy vehicles, as many age old private and government heavy vehicles in city could be seen openly making mockery of pollution control norms and ruling the roads. These vehicles can be seen emitting thick black smoke as if they have been tasked to fumigate the entire Port Blair city with Carbon Mono-oxide.
The height of double standard is that if a two wheeler rider is stopped by a traffic jawan, then the Traffic Jawan will put his all efforts to find a mistake in either license, RC Book, Road Task, Pollution Certificate, Head Light, tail light, indicator etc etc so that anyhow, a challan can be imposed but in case of Heavy Vehicles, it seems they have a open dominancy in city.
Andaman Sheekha recently captured photographs of two heavy vehicles, which were emitting unbelievably thick and black smoke and causing problems to others. Sadly, such violations are not noticed by Traffic Police unit. About traffic rule violation by Auto-Rickshaw drivers, who refuses to use fare meters, let’s not talk about it, as the Traffic unit and Administration have proved that they have no control over them.
