Port Blair, July 02: Thanks to snail pace work of NHIDCL, the Andaman Trunk Road is already in horrible shape and now, adding to the plight, two major land sliding areas have developed in Andaman Trunk Road, inside Jarawa Tribal Reserve Area.
Passengers travelling in ATR buses told Andaman Sheekha that the land sliding has reached very close to the road edge and it is very scary crossing the area in heavy vehicles.
“This is sad to note that the authorities have kept some drums along the land slide areas instead of taking some immediate steps to repair the road stretches. Everyday dozens of buses cross the area and such land sliding zone is a major threat to public,” said a villager of Baratang.
Andaman Sheekha travelled all the way to Baratang to see the land sliding areas and it was found that while going towards Middle Strait the first Major land sliding area falls on the left side while the second one falls on the right side. The second land sliding area is very close to Middle Strait Check Post.
Meanwhile, talking to Andaman Sheekha the Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang, Mr. Alagar Swamy today urged the Administration to immediately repair these two damaged stretches of ATR as in case of heavy rainfall in coming days and further damages to the road, the ATR might face a total closure, which will be nightmarish for people of North and Middle Andaman.
