Port Blair, July 11: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands State Level Co-ordination Committee on Crop Insurance has decided in its meeting to notify areas in A&N Islands for Kharif-2012 season for Paddy crop under NAIS.
Fifty Gram Panchayats has been notified under Crop Insurance Scheme for Kharif-2012 season. All farmers including Share Croppers and Tenant Farmers growing the notified crops in notified areas are eligible for coverage. In order to encourage the benefits of Crop Insurance, the Committee extended 100% subsidy on premium to all the farmers (i.e. both loanee and non-loanee).

Under the scheme, insurance coverage is compulsory for all loanee farmers availing Seasonal Agricultural Operations (SAO) loans from Financial Institutions (FIs) for notified areas up to the full loan amount disbursed at normal premium rates.
The sum insured in case of Non-Loanee farmers is calculated on the basis of value of Threshold Yield and it can be extended up to the value of 150% of Average Yield.
All eligible loanee farmers growing notified crops in notified area are to be compulsorily covered for the full amount of loan disbursed. Non loanee farmers eligible and opting for coverage shall submit prescribed proposal forms to the nearest selected Service Area branch PACS detailing particulars of desired coverage, along with relevant premium & sum insured, within prescribed cut-off dates.
The final cut-off date for the receipt of proposals for Non-Loanee farmers is 31.07.2012.
