Port Blair, June 26: On one hand the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Island has already committed during his first interaction with media that all the vacant posts in Administration will be filled as soon as possible and the present Member of Parliament has also been pushing all departments for the same, the Health Department, on the other hand has till now failed to do anything visible, in this regard.
According to details available here nearly 45 posts of Nursing Officers are presently vacant in Directorate of Health Service and no one has idea that when the recruitment process will actually start.
Not only this, 15 posts of Senior Nursing Officers and two posts of Matrons are also presently lying vacant in the department, which is not only hampering the work of Health Department in remote Islands but also taking away the promotional opportunities of presently serving Nursing Officers.
When contacted the Director of Health Department, Dr. S P Burma, clarified that the Health Department has already initiated the steps to fill up the vacant posts of Nursing Officers, which the department expects to complete by within two months.
He also assured that once these posts of Nursing Officers are filled up other senior nursing posts will be filled up by giving due promotions.
However, it is still not known that why promotions are not given by DHS, against vacant posts of SNO and Matrons immediately as delay in giving promotion to deserving staffs, especially those who are about to retire, is also an injustice.
Meanwhile, insiders say that in many remote islands there is a shortage of nursing staffs, which might become severe if the vacant posts are not filled as soon as possible.
Hope that the Director of Health Service will keep his promise and fill up these vacant posts as early as possible, for the larger interest of people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
