Port Blair, June 24: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) celebrated its 41st Foundation Day on 23rd June, 2018. Mr. Ramesh Verma, Secretary (Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries) was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The Chief Guest in his address lauded the dedicated services done by the Institute in research, development & extension services and also the contributions of the Scientists and others for taking the Institute this far. He felicitated 22 retired staff of the Institute and gave away awards for the best Institute Builder, Division, Scientist, Young Scientist, Extension Scientist, Subject Matter Specialist, Technical Officer, Skilled Supporting Staff, TSM, Publication in Hindi & English and Research Article for the year 2017-18 which was facilitated by Dr. B.A. Jerard, Chairperson, Awards Committee. He also released books, bulletins and folders published by the scientists of the Institute for the benefit of farmers, youth, and extension beneficiaries. The yoga trainers of the Institute were also awarded with Appreciation Certificates facilitated by Dr. M.S. Kundu, Nodal Officer (Yoga).
At the outset Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist and Convener of the program welcomed the participants. Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI & Chairman of the Foundation Day spoke on the various milestones achieved by the Institute over these 40 years. During his speech he paid kudos to the earlier Directors and highlighted the contribution made by the scientists and other staff in bringing the Institute to such heights. He also placed the coordination of development departments to be of high order which has enabled to reach the unreached benefitting the farmers, women, youth and other stakeholders of the Islands over the years. As a part of the program, Mr. S.K. Singh, Senior Administrative Officer and Mr. Amit Srivastava, Senior Technical Officer organized an interactive session among the participants.
In the evening, a cultural program was conducted for the staff on the eve of the Foundation Day.
