
Port Blair, June 21: Mr. Gaurav Gogoi, MP and AICC in charge for Andaman & Nicobar Islands on the 2nd day of his visit to these Islands attended the meeting organized by the Andaman Nicobar Fisherman Congress Committee constituted under the aegis of All India Congress Committee at Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat at 9.00 a.m. on 21/06/2018. Fishermen of Panighat, Dugnabad, Prem Nager, Dairy Farm, Junglighat and nearby area assembled in large number in the meeting to listen Mr. Gogoi.
Mr. Laxminarayan, President, AN Fisherman Congress Committee and Mr. Abdul Majeed narrated the destitution being faced by the fisherman community after the Tsunami of 2004. They urged that the benefits under the Fishermen Settlement scheme such as free housing, fishing dinghy, net and other fishing gears, free ration during the non fishing period etc. which has been discontinued need to be re-introduced. Similarly, the subsidy provided for the Diesel by the government also need to be restored as with the increased cost of Diesel the fishermen are experiencing financial difficulties to venture for fishing in their mechanized boats.
In his speech Mr. Gogoi stated that the anti poor policies of Modi led NDA government is the cause for discontinuance of all such benefits which were extended by the Congress governments to the fishing community. He explained that the idea behind constitution of Fisherman Congress Committees at various states and Union Territories is to consolidate the fishing community under one banner so as to garner strength for fighting for their legitimate rights.
He urged the fishermen community to join the Andaman Nicobar Fisherman Congress Committee to strengthen the Congress Party and to see that their demands getting fulfilled. Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President also spoke on the occasion. Mr. Nand Kishore proposed the vote of thanks.
Thereafter 10.30 a.m. Mr. Gaurav Gogoi attended the Blood donation camp at Tiranga Park organized by the City Congress Committee to mark the Birth day of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, President, All India Congress Committee.
He greeted the blood donors and appreciated the efforts of City Congress Committee for organizing blood donation camp as a welfare measure to the society. Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma , PCC President also attended the programme.
