
Port Blair, June 20: Mr. Gaurav Gogoi, Member of Parliament and newly appointed AICC In-charge for A & N Islands on his two days visit to these islands reached Port Blair on 20th June, 2018. He was warmly welcomed by the Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma and party workers at the Port Blair Air port.
Mr. Gaurav Gogoi then led the motor bike rally from Air Port to Cellular Jail organized by the Youth Congress and NSUI to protest against the growing unemployment and price rise in the islands. At Cellular Jail he laid wreath on Martyr’s Column and at Swatantrya Jyoti in honour of the Freedom fighters who sacrificed their life to attain freedom for the nation.
Mr. Gaurav Gogoi interacted with the members of Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee , elected representatives of PRI & PBMC, Members of District Congress Committees and the members of frontal organizations in the Conference hall at Gandhi Bhavan from 11.00 to 2.00 p.m. and discussed the prevailing political scenario of Andaman Nicobar Islands.
During the course of interaction with the party workers Mr. Gogoi laid emphasis on strengthening the party cadre for which he urged that each and every party leaders and workers to get actively involved in membership drive. He said that with less than an year for the Lok Sabha election and around one and a half years for local elections, we need to reach the people and particularly the young masses, explain the policies of Congress party, have dialogue with them and garner their support for the congress party.
While the session was in progress the following persons from other political parties joined the congress party affirming faith in the national leadership of Mr. Rahul Gandhi and local leadership of Mr. Kuldeep Ray Sharma

Thereafter at 3.00 p.m. Mr. Gogoi attended the conference organized by the Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium on the burning issue of Price rise, curtailment of supply of essential commodities under PDS, ill effect of demonetization and implementation of GST which has badly affected the women of the islands in maintaining their home and upbringing of their children. The conference was address by Mrs. Neelaveni, President, Pradesh Mahila Congress, Mrs. Shanta Singh, Ex-President, Pradesh Mahila Congress and the vote of thanks offered by Mrs. Ratna Kannan, Vice President, District Congress Committee.
At 4.30 p.m. Mr. Gaurav Gogoi participated in the “Jan Akrosh Rally” organized by the Pradesh Congress Committee from Gandhi Bhavan via Gandhi Statue, Clock Tower, Annapurna, Atul Smriti Samiti which culminated at Tiranga Park. During the “Jan Akrosh Rally” he paid tribute to the father of the nation Mr. Mahadma Gandhi and the former Prime Minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi by garlanding their statues. Thereafter a public meeting was held at Tiranga Park.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President in his address said that it is due to the anti labour, anti poor and anti-farmer policies adopted by the Modi led NDA government the entire nation baring few rich are made to suffer in all walks of life.
Mr. Gaurav Gogoi, said that the Modi led NDA government has miserably failed in fulfilling the tall and false promises made to the people of the India during the election campaign of 2014 Lok Sabha election. The four years of BJP lead NDA regime has witnessed growing unemployment, abnormal price rise, increase in farmer suicide, frequent militant and cross boarder terrorist attack, growing intolerance and hatred in society. The people of India have become disillusioned with the style of functioning of Modi and its government and it is only the Congress party under the leadership of Mr. Rahul Gandhi can provide a government which works for the well being of the people belonging to all sections of the society without any linguistic, case, creed or religious discrimination.
